I know, I know, I haven’t wrote in a long time, and that’s why I’m back. In the last 4 days we’ve got a lot of stuff done. Friday, my Mom and Terry started breaking up the concrete by the pool, and got it nice and crushed up. At 7 we went to the Rockies game, it was fun but they didn’t win. By the time we got home it was already pretty late, so I went straight to bed. On Saturday morning it was cloudy and wet, but my parents and Terry still laid the concrete by the pool. In the afternoon I went to my friend Morgan’s house. At 6 I went down the street to babysit. After our Sunday breakfast, we started working outside. My Mom had me paint the edges of the windows with this wood protection stuff. I can’t remember what else we did but I know we did something. On Monday it snowed so we couldn’t work outside. My Mom cooked most of the day, and I got stuck doing school work. I guess you could say it was a lazy day. Tuesday was totally different, it was warm and the snow was gone, so my family put the rock by the pool. It looks really nice. While they were outside working, I was inside working on school! When I got done with my work I was relived, I could go hang out with my friends. Later on Meryl, Meredith, and I walked to Starbucks, and then played basketball at the park. Although I had school the past 4 days weren’t that bad, I had fun.
Wow, it’s really sinking in that this year IS the year we are going to be leaving. We’ve packed up a lot of our stuff up and my Dad has been taking quite a few loads down to my Ah-ma’s (my grandma) house. It’s kind of scary but at the same time I’m really excited that we are going to do it this year. We are also trying to clear stuff off the walls and get the house ready for showing. Since I’ve been trying to warn my friends about it, the other day I told Meredith that it was really going to happen this year, and she got all teary eyed and said,”Really? I’m going to miss you so much!”. It was really sad seeing her cry and I know that they won’t only miss me, I’m going to miss them too! Since we have a pool in the back yard, we are going to try and open it as soon as possible so the people that come and look at the house will get the whole effect on the “awesome back yard thing”. It’s cool that one of the places we are going to after the house sells is Indonesia and right now I’m doing a project on Indonesia. It’s taking a long time to finish, it kinda sucks! Well, I just wanted to give you an update on what’s been going on around here, and that it going to happen soon…..hopefully!
Yesterday my uncle asked if I wanted to go to the Denver Zoo. I wasn’t quite sure because it was a weekday and I didn’t know if my Mom would let me go. She let me, but there was a catch. I had to pick ten animals from Southeast Asia, write a little bit about them, and take pictures of the animals. First was the Elephant. The elephants range from the Southern tip of China and Burma to Sumatra and part of Borneo, as well as part of India and Sri Lanka. Next, was the Hooded Pitta. You can see this beautiful bird in the forests from India to New Guinea. After that one we found the colorful White-eared Catbird. The Catbird lives in the forests of New Guinea. Later down the path was the Rhino. The rhinoceros use to be all around Africa and Southeastern Asia, but since 1992 the numbers have gone way down! When we came around the reptiles we found the Philippine Sailfin Lizard, and the Green Tree Monitor. These animals are found in New Guinea and northern Australia. We also found the Rat Snake, found in the rain forests of Sulawesi and Selayar, Indonesia. Next we found the Mudskipper. This little guy is found in man grove swamps from East Africa to Australia. At the end of our journey we came across the Siamese Crocodile and the Giant Hump-Headed Lizard. The crocodile can be found in the fresh water of Southeast Asia and in the Indonesian islands, and the lizard in the rain forests of Thailand and through Sumatra.
We were there for almost four hours with my uncle’s friends and one of them had a whole bunch of kids with her. My favorite animal out of the whole Zoo would have to be… either the cheetah or the polar bear. The cheetah because when it looked at me it’s eyes were bright big yellow eyes, or the polar bear because I was sitting right next to a piece of it’s food, and when it came to get the food he/she got super close to the glass. When we got back I was straight to dance class, the class was horrible, but at least I had a good time at the Zoo.
On Saturday I did a program called Marine Biologist for a Day at the Downtown Aquarium. It was actually funner than I thought it was going to be. First, we chopped up a whole bunch of squid, shrimp, small fish, krill, and some green vitamins for fish food. I guess you could consider them cannibals for eating the small fish. I learned they needed vitamins, just like we do. Next we gave the food to the fish from above the tanks, where the visitors can’t see. The fish that we fed ranged from a few inches to a few feet. Just us kids got to wander around the aquarium for half an hour. After lunch we dissected a mackerel, YUMMY! Surprisingly it was kind of fun, I learned a lot about the parts of a fish, that I didn’t know before.
Our instructor said that he had a surprise for us. We got to touch a baby octopus! It really didn’t look like a baby though. The tentacles felt really cool, it was like a lot of little suction cups sticking to my fingers at once. Creepy, but at the same time awesome! The coolest thing of the whole experience was that was we got to feed three sea turtles. We fed them fish, vitamins, lettuce, and green beans, we were super close. Just then I learned that sea turtles eat lettuce. I think it was a really, really cool experience. In the end I made a new friend and got her phone number. Over all I think it was worth the $50 that my parents payed.
As you probably know I’m home schooled. Well, there are some parts that are cool and some parts that aren’t. Lets start out with the good things. I get to sleep in, I get to be with my family, watch TV on my lunch break if I want, and I can stay in my Pj’s all day. I can take as long as I want to get my work done, it just depends on how fast I want to work that day, because some times I finish it by 2 and some times by 10 o’ clock at night.
The #1 thing that sucks about homeschooling, is that I don’t get to be with my friends!!!!!!!!!!! I miss doing art projects, P.E games, and music in school and I wish I could do more of them. If I actually think about it though, we do most of those thing on a daily basis. Another thing that sucks is that I don’t get to have recess. Plus recess isn’t fun anyway if you don’t have your friends to hang out with.
I guess you could say I like homeschooling, but I still miss public school. My Mom says after we do our trip around the world we will settle into a house, and they might put me back in school. The only thing about going to a different school is that it just won’t feel the same, because my friends won’t be there. If I do end up going back to school I will be really excited. That’s the future though, my Mom and I have got to focus on what’s happening right now!:)
